Ghent’s first brewery hopped toward an opening date with the Monday arrival of four fermentors imported from Italy.
Kevin Erskine, founder of Coelacanth Brewing, 760A W. 22nd St., said he hopes to open in October or November.
The project was delayed this spring when a neighboring landowner said he was concerned that Erskine’s customers would park in his lots.

The average price of gas, continuing its pleasant plunge, dropped below $2 in Hampton Roads on Sunday.
A gallon of regular averaged $1.99, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. That was down 36 cents from a month ago and more than a dollar from $3.15 a year ago.
The last time gas averaged less than $2 in Hampton Roads, according to AAA, was May 7, 2009, when Michael Jackson was still alive.

Consumers have begun to see an early benefit from Dollar Tree Inc.’s recent takeover of Family Dollar stores: Half-price discounts on items to be discontinued at Family Dollar.
The sales, labeled “red-tag clearance events,” began earlier this week at all Family Dollar stores, Randy Guiler, a spokesman for Dollar Tree, said Thursday.

The U.S. average price of gasoline dropped 27 cents over the past three weeks, to $2.44 a gallon.
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the pump price fell even though crude oil prices gained strength, as gasoline supply outweighed demand.

A gallon of regular averaged $2.17 Thursday in Hampton Roads, down from $2.48 a month ago and $3.22 a year ago, AAA reported. The last Labor Day that gas cost less was in 2004, when regular averaged $1.78, said Katharine Beachboard, a local spokeswoman for AAA.
