An FDA decision summary released today allows DNA-testing company 23andMe to market a genome test that screens for Bloom syndrome, a rare disorder that leads to a predisposition in carriers toward the development of cancer. Washington, D.C. Proposes 16 Weeks Paid Family Leave

D.C. workers may soon have some of the most generous family leave benefits in the U.S.

A new bill currently making its way through Washington, D.C.’s city council could give working parents in the nation’s capital some of America’s most generous benefits. Introduced by the D.C. Council on Tuesday, the proposed plan would give all new parents up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave; the legislation would also apply to other significant personal events, like tending to an ailing family member.

Europe Delivers Blow To Tech Companies, By Ruling Against Data Transfer

User privacy just got a big boost, due to a European ruling that could hamper the operations of tech giants like Google and Facebook.

On Tuesday, Europe’s highest court struck down an agreement that allowed users’ personal information to be transmitted from the European Union to the United States. The agreement, generally called “Safe Harbor,” applied to surveillance agencies like the NSA, as well as companies like Google, which provided search results to online advertisers looking for information on consumers.
